When the news arrived that Hatebreed and Machine Head are coming to shake off the snow from the roof tops of Hellcity – we knew there wasn’t possibly
a more hardcore way to open the gig season of 2010. As the 1st day of February was coming closer, the excitement was about to rise to its most
dangerous ‘jump-out-of-your-pants’ level. And it absolutely burst out all over the Helsinki Ice Hall during the show.
Hatebreed stormed out on stage and without any further ado blew out everyone’s brains with “I Will Be Heard”. Jamey Jasta was like one fiery ball of
energy and his charge spread out to all of the audience. There was no way in hell anybody could remain motionless to this mind-explosive music.

Since the new concert year is starting really slow, here are pictures from: EINDHOVEN METAL MEETING 2009, that took place at Effenaar, Eindhoven on the
19th of December.
Click below for pics of: ENTOMBED, EQUILIBRIUM, GRAVE, HOLLENTHON, IMPALED NAZARENE, LEGION OF THE DAMNED, SATYRICON, and THYRFING
With all this holiday turmoil, delayed flights, lost luggage and moving from one place to another, we absolutely forgot to tell you about the last gig we attended
in 2009. Now that the dust has finally settled, it’s time to write down some memories. The prize for the Last Gig of the Year was given to legendary Motörhead
on the 16th of December at Helsinki Ice Hall.
Motörhead reminds me of my early teenage years, when I was slowly transferring my taste and views from punk music I was into at that time to metal.
This band was my first step to “something heavier”. I was about 15 when I heard “Killed By Death” for the first time. I used to look at Motörhead the
same way as The Little Red Riding Hood would probably look at The Big Bad Wolf. Time has passed, my tastes have gone more extreme, but once I heard the news
about the gig, I couldn’t miss the chance to look the wolf in the eyes.
Most likely I will be given over to anathema by most of the inhabitants of the metal world for the following report. And I do feel like I’m writing blasphemy,
so forgive me Lord/Lemmy/dear reader, but I can’t help being honest. I was just bored out of my mind the entire gig. I am not trying to deny the band’s absolute
greatness, it’s an axiom. But I felt that I could have had better time listening to the same songs on a CD at home.

Norwegian black metal... There is hardly another genre with a worse reputation in the eyes of superficial music crowd.
Black metal bands have been accused of all possible sins: starting with totally ridiculous urban myths telling they are all Satanists and they drink blood
on a weekly basis, right after another sacrifice. However some of the notorious deeds have been proved to be actual facts:
ex. church arson and openly pro-Nazi ideas.
Guys who have been involved with Mayhem have left behind an infamous trail of press scandals, drunken debaucheries, broken photo cams, church arson and ..a few corpses.
Music Photocalypse managed to get hold of the band and make a face-to-face interview with Mayhem singer Attila Csihar during the band's Scandinavian tour.
Attila Csihar joined Mayhem back in 1992 to record vocals for “De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas” after the suicide of then-vocalist Dead.
It has been over 15 years since the band's mayhem: rumors about the existence of vicious “Black Metal Inner Circle”,
Dead's suicide, guitar player Euronymus' murder by bass player Varg Vikernes. So we were very curious to figure out how much of the notorious rumors was true.

Denis Goria is not just an outstanding and rather popular French photographer, but also our good friend.
His latest works include Pain’s “Monkey Business” video, full artwork of Hypocrisy’s latest album, Nightwish "Made in Hong Kong" booklet, promo shoots and
video trailers for Amorphis and the list goes on and on.
Music Photocalypse crew got a chance to attend the video shooting for Ensiferum’s “Twilight Tavern” made by Denis and observe the work through the lens of
our own camera. Now we are going to raise the curtain and let you take a peek on the pictures from behind-the-scenes.
Denis kindly agreed to tell us more about the video.
“First of all, it's important to mention that I’m not a movie/video director. I'm a photographer. I've met Ensiferum earlier this summer at Jurassic Rock Festival
in Finland. The manager of the band asked me to join them, as we already had different collaborations earlier. After a few beers and sauna, the band and
I established a friendly relation, which is always good for a possible common work in the future.

Dimebag Darrell Abbott – a legendary guitarist and a metal music icon who left a priceless and irreplaceable heritage to all the metal followers
around the world. The news of the devastating tragedy that took place on December 8, 2004 in Columbus, Ohio where Dimebag was shot dead onstage made
many a heart skip a beat. A deranged mind armed with a handgun took away one of the most gifted musicians of our times. Yet nothing and nobody will
ever take away his music and the impact it made on our lives. Pantera’s songs echoed in many souls and someone had to continue the story.
Finland once again got a chance to prove that it was much more than a bunch of frozen drunkards riding polar bears around the Santa Claus village.
The country where metal music runs in the water and floats in the air couldn’t let one of its most influential heroes pass away without an appropriate
farewell ceremony. The idea of “Dimebag Beyond Forever” – a Dimebag Darrell tribute project belongs to Nico Hartonen and Euge Valovirta
from Finnish band Godsplague. On January 15, 2005 the first concert gathered on stage 47 of Finland’s best metal musicians.
It had such a great success and demand that since then it became an annual tradition. The number of musicians has decreased but the power
remains the same. Every year in the beginning of December they set out on a “class trip from Hell” and play Pantera covers all over Finland ending it
in Helsinki with a show that can move to tears even the toughest and most devoted Pantera fans.
Before the last show of 2009 tour we got to talk about Pantera and the project with Nico Hartonen (Godsplague), Jules Näveri (Profane Omen) and
Ville Sorvali (Moonsorrow) – people who have been doing this from the very beginning and are not going to stop.
